69th Venice International Film Festival
Among all the international film festivals in the globe, the Venice International Film Festival first and the oldest. Organized by La Biennale de Venezia, this year’s festival will be held from August 29 until September 8 at the island of Lido in Venice, Italy.
Where the likes of Brokeback Mountain, The Queen, Black Swan, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, among others first premiered, this year’s lineup includes The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake), a 9/11 drama based on the novel by Mohsin Hamid and The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), a film about a charismatic individual who starts up a religious organization after World War II and his first “apostle”.

There will also be a special presentation of Spike Lee’s Bad 25, a documentary about the making of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson’s seventh studio album Bad, which will celebrate the 25th year since its release in 1987.

“The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance. The Festival includes retrospectives and homages to major figures as a contribution towards raising awareness of the history of cinema.” — La Biennale de Venezia
Another note-worthy aspect of the festival is its special screening of a select number of classic films and documentaries from around the globe that are especially revived and restored for the new audience to enjoy.
